The Knight


The Knight

Blinded by enemy steps,
Washed of all that can be seen.
God alone to sure thy steps,
On incorporeal ground.
Sent to fight a war untold of far beyond enemies.
This is where knights of light mark their battleground.
We rest alone with one weapon gripped tightly in our hands.
‘Tis faith in Thee alone, our one true and holy God.
And by Your grace we’ll lose no hold of that faithful blade,
Until Thy kingdom come.
In blind knights’ hands,
‘Tis grace which gives this surest weapon.
It cuts deepest in the dark and faithful ’til the end.
Soldiers of light, grab thy blade and march forth in the darkness.
Leave thy way and find the path of thy righteousness.
Embrace the faithful King.
He died upon the field.
He calls you to the same.
It may be by way of one thousand cuts or with one tortured test.
In this the knight is blessed;
To die upon the field with blade still in hand.
Keep thy faith.
Keep thy way.
Courage is for today.
Glory is for tomorrow.
Mercy is for thy King. And you are in His war.
Are you with He?
This is the question for thy soul.
Will you die to truly be?

The Judge


The Judge stands boldly before His throne.
In a moment he stood high.
His clothes as righteous robes;
His sight as trembling skies.
In majesty His word rings out,
Before that fateful call.
The time has come.
The day is here to set my standard tall.
He called them out one by one,
To hear them say their all.
They had no words to justify.,
They had no words at all.
He commanded that they speak,
Declare your deeds to all.
When all was said and done,
Before that righteous King;
A just call came from the throne,
That blasted with a ring.
Truth and mercy I’ve proclaimed,
To you all your days;
Yet neither would you have,
Nor would you recieve.
Depart from me you curséd thing,

Freewill in heaven? Part 2

As the previous ground work laid out, we as Christians see freedom as being slaves of the truth revealed by Christ. This gives quite a different spin on our freewill than others may have. A Christian’s greatest good is to be bound to truth, as with chains, and freed to live out of love for the God who saves us to now be fully reborn with new love and compassion for our neighbors.  We must touch on the oddity of our falling into sin after the knowledge of Christ comes, but first lets review what Christ revealed for us in John chapter 8 verses 31-33 and get a little closer at grasping heavenly freewill.


I previously said,

The freedom of which Christ speaks begins by being one who believes, then continuing in His words, then truly being His disciple, then knowing the truth, and finally by the knowledge of Truth being made free.

We are free as we can be when we live by the law of love revealed in Christ by the power God gives by the indwelling Holy Spirit. It is not freedom when we live in accord to lies and banal selfishness. It is spiritual blindness and therefore causes a depravity of true free action for the person acting. The will is bound. God says, “My people parish for lack of knowledge.” [Hosea 4:6] Depravity is the fruit of a faulty belief of what is true, good and beautiful. Truth is the actual savior of the people with wills bound by darkness. Christ said, “I am the Truth.” To live in accord with the Truth is to both be free and know God.

As for the remaining sin in the believer, we must look at the reality within with we are born and dwell today. We as Christians live both with a knowledge of the Truth and without a full knowledge of the Truth. This is the case because we are not ready for the unveiled presence of God. God gives use both what we need and what we can handle at the time. The Christian pilgrimage is a journey of being stretched beyond our belief in what we can handle. God has greater plans for us than we do.

That eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of man, what things God hath prepared for them that love him.[1 Cor 2:9]

God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.[1 Cor 10:13]

This veiling of the full presence of God is why the faithful “walk by faith and not by sight.[2 Cor 5:7] We live now with the reality of living without seeing the knowledge we know by faith. Here in lies the temptation. We are more able to act against what we do not see. We are designed to act on what we see. If we do not most likely we wouldn’t live through today. Faith is the birth of heavenly eyes in the person. Though not fully developed in this life, these eyes are the source of our Godly steps. When we act against what the eyes of faith reveal, we sin and we “walk according to the flesh.“[Rom 8:5 & 2 Cor 10:3] Today we choose which strength grows; the old man or the new man born of the Spirit.  Both are at war in the believer, but only one lives in the presence of Truth now and in the end. The old man’s desires are still in accord with error while the new man is walking in the light of Truth by faith.[Gal 6:7]

I think we can really get somewhere now in addressing the thought of free will in heaven. The old man can not, nor would he desire, to enter heaven. Heaven is the realm of unveiled Truth. The glory of God enlightens heaven and the Lamb Himself is the lamp.[Rev 21:23] Truth completely obliterates error, as light completely dispels darkness. The new man is both in the light of the Lamp already here today, though veiled to the world without faith.[2 Cor 4:1-10] Today the world tests him though it fears what may be in him to be revealed. Falsity can only seek to snuff out the Truth that it may remain for a short time more. And with that we see the why Christ was crucified and displayed to the world. He practiced what He preached and did not put His light under basket, but let the world around Him hear the truth revealed to Him by the Father.[Matt 5:14-16] He lived free and unbound by the darkness, though it cost Him His life.

So for a firm answer to the question raised? It is a paradox. Yes, we do have freewill in heaven. The odd question is do we live with freewill now? The will is bound to the reality for which it reacts to. In the light of Christ the Christian’s will is free. Walking in that light will lead us to where He is. He formed the path and it is the Cross. He calls us to believe, continue in His word, be His disciple, know the Truth, and by knowledge be made free.[John 8:31-33] But men often like the darkness.[John 3:19] Christ does not promise rose petals and garden meadows of delight as the walking path to heaven. He promises the  Via Dolorosa. He promises the Cross and union with the suffering servant who laid down His life that we may believe He loved the Father who He came to reveal.

He said without shame to His disciples,

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”[Matt 16:24]

“Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.”[Matt 5:11-12]

So, the real question is do we believe Him? If we do we will seek the Light not the darkness and be free. Will it be worth it? Only if we truly wish to be who we are; children born of Light made in the image of God.

Lord Jesus shine the light of the Father on us.

Freewill in heaven? Part 1

I’ll let some of my thoughts roll around a bit and I hope we can follow them on through and find a way out the other end. This idea has fascinated me for some time and I hope to let some folks in on it, because I believe it to be a fruitful area of thought to understand more of our God and His plan for us as His children in Christ. If we believe the basic doctrines and Scriptures of Christianity we have much to ponder; but with some grace from God, I believe we can be closer to Him with greater love and amazement in the end. I would image along the way we may bump into a few paradoxes of life and faith as we go. That seem to be God’s preferred way of get our small minds to catch glimpses of Him and His plan with our new born heavenly eyes.

To start with I’m no ones authority nor do I intend to be. I am a learner and disciple of Christ and am willing to be corrected by the authorities He has set in place. All I hope for is to learn with anyone who wishes to join me in my thinking and will be happy to discuss my failures of thought and be corrected by Scripture and the Church.

So lets start with the authority of the Word,

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.33 They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free?

34 Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin. 35 Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever. 36 If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. 37 I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.             – Gospel of John Chp 8

This scene in the ministry of Christ I believe will give us a good place to start. He has been in the temple area teaching and the religious leaders have just sought to trap Him between His teachings and the Law of Moses by presenting the woman caught in adultery. Of course, the wisdom of Christ prevails and He sends the woman away un-stoned to “sin no more.” Christ continues to teach and many still lack faith in Him, although others believe. That is when Christ speaks the passage above.

To the believing, He gives somewhat of a pattern to freedom. The freedom of which Christ speaks begins by being one who believes, then one continuing in His words, then truly being His disciple, then knowing the truth, and finally by the knowledge of truth being made free.

To begin with we must touch on believing, so we can get the ball rolling. This does bring us to a mystery of our Faith. Do we come to believe? Yes.  It was the “Jews who believed in Him,” which He began by talking to. Is it the believing who brought themselves to believe? No, though it clearly is not against them that this believing occurs. I think St. Paul may give us some light here.

He wrote to the Christians in Rome saying,

14How then shall they call on Him, in whom they have not believed? Or how shall they believe Him, of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear, without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach unless they be sent… 16But all do not obey the gospel. For Isaias saith: Lord, who hath believed our report? 17Faith then cometh by hearing; and hearing by the word of Christ. Romans Chp 10

St. Paul points out that believing in the Word comes first by hearing, but also that what is heard must have the backing authority of being sent. This is why the Son was sent by the Father and then the Son sent the Apostles. Christ said to the Apostles “as the Father sent Me so also I have sent you.” And also He said, “He that receives you, receives Me: and he that receives Me, receives Him that sent Me. “

 17For God sent not his Son into the world, to judge the world, but that the world may be saved by him. 18He that believeth in him is not judged. John Chp 3

The power to believe comes from the authoritative proclamation of the Word made flesh who dwells among us in Christ. We do not save ourselves; we are saved by the only Son of the Father, Christ. If one is not sent then we do not receive the fully empowered living Word of God which converts the fallen sinner in need of mercy from the Father in heaven. The Spirit of God prepares the a person prior to the sending and coming of the Word of God in Christ. This makes possible the reception of the Good News brought by the Word of God for the salvation of the sinner. This is also why Christ comes “not to save the righteous but the sinner.” The “righteous” have no hole in need of filling for the Son of God to take up residence in. They see themselves without the need of salvation, therefore the Word of God “hath no place in” them. Therefore, the presence of the living Word is a burdening presence to the “righteous,” who have no reborn desire for God kindled in their hearts by the Spirit. Christ and His servants are found rejected for exactly this reason. They are seen purposeless to the world who believes it has no need for a complete and utter salvation from above.

So, here we come to what the freedom Jesus speaks of truly is. It is not freedom to be and do whatever we wish, but it is freedom to be truly who we are; sinners in need of a savior who has come and “will never leave us nor forsake us.” This is the freedom of the will which the Christian recognizes as true freedom. For the believing, being slaves of the truth born of the Spirit of God is to be made“free indeed.” Possibly a paradox? Hmmm? I believe so.

I think this gives us enough to move forward in our thoughts with a Christian vision of our freedom in Christ and how it will pertain to freewill; both, now and in the full heavenly presence of God.

Power of the Person

It seems to me in most of my interaction online, and with other mediums of interaction, that we all are at great risk of failing to discern the wonder and beauty of the gift we have been give to communicate with others like ourselves. The person we know most in our lives quite obviously is ourselves. Yet, often we fail to look into our own hearts and seek to understand our motives and desires. Therefore, we fail to comprehend our action and often think, “Why did I do that?” We also often feel the causes of the actions, which we desire to distance ourselves from, are that we did not think. We think to ourselves,”Well, I just didn’t think before I acted.” I do not believe this is the case. I believe we most truly had thought and contemplated on things before the actions and that that contemplation is to a great extent the roots of those actions.

This gets me back to my post title “Power of the Person.” I see that our actions are the fruit of our thoughts. Christ said.”A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth that which is evil. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”[Luke 6] The fact that we lack charity of action toward those whom we interact with is the fruit of our view of that person or interaction. I believe we more readily lose the clarity of it truly being persons like ourselves whom we interact with through mediums of exchange, such as blogs, texts, even phone conversations.

I thought this would be a good idea to start with on this new blog, because even though at times I am certain I may fail to up hold the value of the person “made in God’s image,” which God gives to those persons, with whom I and we may interact with here. I pray we may continually increase our contemplation of the truth that each of us are to see others as we see ourselves, and Christ made Himself like us that we make grow in the recognition of seeing our treatment of others as how we treat Him. Basically, God became man that we may be able to look at our actions toward others to see how much we love Him. This is the standard by which we ought to seek to hold high in our lives and I hope we can carry it high and give God thanks for each other as persons made in His image here.Image
